The story of how Ian and Lyndsey fell in love began with an Athletes in Action (AIA) Christmas party. Ian arrived with an armful of pizzas and was blown away by how beautiful and intelligent Lyndsey was. Lyndsey also later revealed that she had thought Ian was very cute and charming. They were the only two young professionals at the party and hit it off. There was definite chemistry between them. Following a group hangout open mic night at the Cider House, Lyndsey got the courage to ask Ian out on a coffee date. Ian immediately said, “yes” and they had their first date on January 3rd, 2020 at the Village Bakery. Ironically, neither of them drank coffee. Nonetheless this first date lasted 3 hours and sparked a dating relationship that deepened as time continued. Ian became an Athens’ tour guide for Lyndsey. Ian and Lyndsey shared many things in common. A strong foundation in the Christian faith, a hilarious sense of humor, and a love of Andy Griffith and Larry’s Dawg House! Their differences also brought them together as they learned new perspectives from one another. Through this time Ian asked Lyndsey to be his girlfriend a day before Valentine’s Day. On their 1-year anniversary, Ian took Lyndsey on a scavenger hunt of their first dates. AIA Christmas Party. Cider House. OU Basketball Game. And finished with lunch at Sol restaurant. But little did Lyndsey know the scavenger hunt was not over. Ian had devised a plan with mutual close friends. Ian was fake “house sitting” for them, but actually had set up their house with decorations, candles, and a 104 slide PowerPoint with music recapping their 1 year together. At the end of the slideshow, the final slide told Lyndsey to look for the last clue which was hidden in the Christmas tree. The clue just said, “Turn Around” and when she did, Ian was on one knee holding a ring. Lyndsey said yes! And the next chapter of their lives began together, planning a wedding in 5 months in between Ian’s teaching schedule!
